How It All Began

A Small Kitchen,
A Big Dream

Mod Pizza was born in a tiny kitchen in Venice Beach, California, where two friends with a love for fresh ingredients and bold flavors decided the world needed better pizza.

In 2008, founders Alex Rivera and Jordan Kim started with a single wood-fired oven, a handful of locally sourced ingredients, and an unwavering belief that every pizza should be as unique as the person ordering it. Their philosophy was simple: build it your way, make it with love.

What began as a weekend pop-up quickly grew into a beloved Los Angeles institution. Word spread fast — not just about the pizza, but about the experience. Guests weren't just customers; they were co-creators, building their perfect pies from an ever-evolving selection of premium toppings, house-made sauces, and artisan doughs.

Today, Mod Pizza serves thousands of guests each week from our flagship location in Los Angeles, and we're still guided by the same spirit that started it all: fresh, fearless, and made just for you.

The First Fire

Flagship Opens

Our first permanent location opens at 8985 Venice Blvd. in Los Angeles. The iconic open kitchen and craft-your-own menu debut to instant acclaim.

2014
LA's Best Pizza Award

Los Angeles Magazine names Mod Pizza the city's best artisan pizza. We celebrate with our team by throwing a free-pizza party for the neighborhood.

2017
Farm-to-Table Partnership

We formalize partnerships with 8 California farms, ensuring 80% of our produce is locally grown and seasonally inspired year-round.

2020
Community Through Crisis

During the pandemic, we pivot to contactless delivery and donate over 10,000 pizzas to frontline workers and LA food banks.

200,000 Pizzas Served

We hit a milestone: 200,000 pizzas served since opening day. We mark the occasion by launching our new seasonal artisan menu and catering program.
